EU Information Centre

Since 1963, the European Commission has founded about 500 European Info (EU i, ex-European Documentation Centre (EDC)) and 100 Depositary Libraries (DEPs) in the world. In Japan, 19 EU i are located in universities along with one DEP in the National Diet Library.

Jean Monnet COE Centre

Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence for EU Studies Keio University was authorized as the first Jean Monnet COE in Japanese Higher educational Institute and this research centre was established in 2007. It has been functioning as the base of various researches regarding EU Integration.

EUIJ Tokyo Consortium

The EUIJ is an academic centre of studies and research on the European Union in Japan. It is sponsored by the European Commission and managed by a consortium of four Tokyo universities, comprising of Hitotsubashi University, International Christian University, Tokyo University of Foreign Studies and Tsuda College.

Delegation of the European Union to Japan

Representative of the European Union in Japan. Founded in 1974 as the Delegation of the European Commission to Japan. The representatives are given the status of being part of a diplomatic mission, and the Ambassador of the Delegation has, since 1990, presented credentials to the Emperor and been recognized to be in the position of an ambassador. According to taking effect of Lisbon Treaty, it has changed to the Delegation of European Union to Japan since 1st of December, 2009.

21st Century COE Programme Centre for New European Research

Based on a MEXT report entitled "A Policy for the Structural Reform of Universities," this program was established in 2002 to cultivate a competitive academic environment among Japanese universities by giving targeted support to the creation of world-standard research and education bases (centre of excellence).

European Commission Directorate-General of Education and Culture

The mission of the DG of Education and Culture is to support the education, occupational training, and lifelong learning of EU citizens. In its external relations, it has developed the Jean Monnet Programme, as well as the Erasmus Mundus Programme, which promotes student exchanges between the EU and the world at the graduate school level.

EUSI in Tokyo

EU Studies Institute in Tokyo. It has been approved by European Commission as a new EU Centre and established by EU grant as a consortium of Hitotsubashi University, Keio University and Tsuda College. Aim to create the hub of EU Research and Education Institutes in Japan.

European Commission Directorate-General of External Relations

In charge of the EU’s external relations policy, including relations between Japan and the EU. Apart from advancing EU recognition in international society, the DG of External Relations introduced the EU Centres project to promote understanding of the EU around the world, including the EUIJ and the EUSI that were adopted in Japan.

Jean Monnet Chair

The Jean Monnet Action is an European Commission initiative launched in 1990 to promote knowledge/studies on European integration. One type of the Jean Monnet action is the support for teaching activities at universities through the creation of "Jean Monnet Chairs".
Two of Jean Monnet Chair holders within four in Japan are teaching at Keio University.
